Dads Birthday and Assignment Overload!

Each week seems to bring something new, whether it be big or small :)

Monday (May 10th) I was able to Skype with my dad and Tina which is awesome! They are so busy building the new business that we don't have the opportunity to talk a whole lot. Monday also involved me going to the library and checking out so many books for research for my essay that they wouldn't all even fit in my backpack...talk about fun time..NOT :)

Tuesday was my dad's NZ birthday, and my Wednesday was his birthday back in the US. We were able to Skype so that I could wish him a happy b-day which made me so happy! Later that afternoon I participated in a Psychology study that looked at memory and response to emotional images. Talk about tedious work staring at a computer for over an hour trying to interpret pictures that flash up on the screen for a split second. I had to decide if I thought the object would fit in a filing cabinet drawer without looking directly at the image. It may sound easy, but it is a lot more tricky than you think! But hey...I got $30 for participating, so it was all worth it! :)

My paper for Psychology was due on Friday which made the week a tad bit stressful. This paper required a lot of research and critical thinking, but I felt good about the topic I chose and the quality of writing I put into the paper. I skipped my Women's Studies lecture that day partly to finish editing my essay, but also because the lecture was right at the time when I was scheduled to SIGN UP FOR FALL CLASSES AT UCSD!!! Can you believe it?!?! Because I sure can't!! How did I get to the point where I am already signing up for senior year classes?? Totally wild! I had such a guilty feeling in my stomach for skipping class, but I figured it wasn't that big of a deal...first class I've missed all semester.

Saturday was SOOOO eventful!! ha...Farmer's Market, grocery shopping, and laundry. I feel like I sound like a suburban mom or something.

The weather here has been changing a lot. We are now in the heart of winter so rain has become a significant part of daily life. I love staring out my bedroom window watching the rain fall and hearing it hit the ground. It is such a peaceful sound. Much more peaceful than the construction that has commenced outside of the building! The university has brilliantly decided to build two 16 story res halls outside the flats. The construction workers are a little too eager to start work in the morning...7 AM!!!!! My goodness!! I wake up to a new sound almost every morning...cranes being put in place, gravel being poured out of a truck, wood chippers grinding up trees, jack hammers, machines to compact the gravel...you name it, I've heard it. I have mornings where I literally wake up and scream out to make it stop, as if that is going to magically do something..ha..I wish...at least I still have a view...the poor student who gets my room next semester and next year will be looking at buildings, and possibly make a new 'friend' in the window across the way...maybe they can communicate with tin cans and string between the windows, because that is how close they are going to be...

Catch Up Part 4: Seems like the rest of these posts are going to be titled 'Catch Up'...whoops...

May was a wonderful month!

The first week I was able to Skype a couple times with someone close to my heart who I had not seen or talked to in a very long time. It was amazing having the chance to catch up and reconnect. Skype is seriously a God-send...

I made sure to put buying cards at the top of my priority list for the week considering May is a month full of special days in my family...it is Mother's Day as well as my dad's birthday. Cards were sent out to their respective addresses, along with a special Mother's Day surprise for my grandma. When she heard that I was going to Australia and that I would be staying in not one but TWO hotels while I was there, she promptly asked me if I could bring home their plastic laundry bags and their signature face wash clothes...don't ask...she has a thing for them and I just smile and love her for it :) I was able to confiscate one was cloth as well as a cloth laundry bag from both hotels! I put them all in a box along with the hotel slippers they put at the foot of your bed, attached a note, and sent them on their way. She was ecstatic when they came in the mail...it made me so happy that I could make her day.

Wednesday was Cinco de Mayo which called for a group celebration at the flats where I live. We all enjoyed a holiday that is so normal to celebrate in the states, and convince the Kiwis and other international students to celebrate with us, even though they didn't completely get the point! :) I also had a paper due earlier that day, which was nice to get out of the way before the celebration.

Thursday I had a group presentation due for my Politics class, and while I was not as prepared for it as I would have liked, our group still did really well. The other girl in my presentation group was so nervous to speak in front of the class. That morning I kept telling her that everything would be okay and that she would do a great job. Later on she told me over the computer how much I helped her and how she wanted to do something to thank me. So the next week in tutorial she showed up with a Starbucks mocha to say thank you. She is by far one of the sweetest friends I have met here thus far :)

On Saturday, Erin and I hurried down to Farmer's Market for some early morning shopping and then headed straight back home to get ready for her lifting competition. Erin has been training for Amherst volleyball season while in NZ, and decided to register for a lifting competition during training. She competed in the bench press, squat, and dead lift and did soooo well!! I was such a proud best friend sitting on the bleachers with her roommates cheering her on, and then going behind the scenes to take pictures to document the occasion. I've never been to a weight lifting competition before...it was pretty cool!

This week was a whole lot of fun, but just like every other week since I've been in NZ, it went by CRAZY fast!

Catch UP Part 3: EAP dinner, 10k, and other fun things!

After arriving home from Sydney, I had one day (Sunday) to get myself in order before the second part of the semester kicked off...lots of organizing to do and very little time to do it!

Monday was quite the whirlwind. I had an exam in my Education class first thing in the morning...I ended up getting an A on it, so I guess all of my studying over break paid off! Later that day I had two assignments dues as well, one for my Psychology class and another for my Politics class. Many thanks to the University of Auckland for their inspiration to make deadlines for the day everyone returns from break! That doesn't make life stressful at all..ha ya right!

Erin and I continue to make our Tuesday Fred's coffee/study/best friend time/plan the week date a ritual. Our Sencha Moonlight tea is absolutely delicious and going to be greatly missed when we head back to the states! Tuesday night was our EAP group dinner, and we all went out to a delicious Thai restaurant on Ponsonby Road. Perks to being a vegetarian...I was able to order ANYTHING I wanted instead of having to choose from the set menu designed for all of those crazy meat eaters! I had a delicious coconut milk and banana curry that seemed more like a dessert than a dinner, but delicious all the same! It was great to see and catch up with all of the people from my program. Some I had not seen since our orientation in the beginning of February, making this a great opportunity to hear how everyones time in NZ has been thus far.

The rest of the week carried on like any other week. Lots of class, working out, and soaking in everything about this country! I discovered the beauty of being able to make phone calls through Skype! $5.95 per month and I can call anyone in the US. Needless to say I took advantage of that right away. I started calling heaps of people, surprising many as they had not heard from me on an actual phone in months! I was able to call some amazing friends back in the states, my family, as well as my amazing friends and coworkers at Zin! It was incredible to talk to so many of them for the first time since I left...Rouz, Monica, Martin, Nick, Justin, Angelica, William...they all made my day as the phone was passed around the restaurant :) I can't wait to see them all so soon!

On Saturday, Erin and I headed to Farmers Market to get some basics that we needed for the coming week. That night we headed down to the Sky City Mall and studied for a while in Starbucks, had boba, and ate falafel for dinner. On Sunday we decided to put to use the pumpkin bread ingredients that Erin's mom had sent over in her care package. The bread was amazing!

As each week passes, the next seems to fly even faster. After Erin and I made pumpkin bread I decided to keep up with the spirit of baking and make banana bread. Another great recipe! Much of this week (April 26-30) was devoted to finishing up the journal I had to keep for my Women's Studies class. This journal was great because we were given prompts to respond to about the novels we read, but we were given personal response prompts as well. It was a great opportunity to read some fascinating novels written by extremely talented women, as well as reflect on my life and experiences.

After I turned in the journal on Friday, Erin, Anni, Chris and I began our road trip to Rotorua for the annual marathon, 10k and 5k. Erin's roommates Becca, Jamie, Brian and Matt, along with our friend Jess had left earlier in the day and we were meeting them there. We arrived late at night to the smell of sulphur filling the air...there are hot pools and sulphur springs all around Rotorua. We were starving, so we found a cheap and tasty looking Indian restaurant and walked on in. Just our luck...ALL 4 of us are vegetarian! We ordered four different dishes and then ate Bucca di Beppo/lazy susan style and passed the food around the table, making a rainbow design on top of the white rice...we had to have a quality meal before our big run! :)

After dinner we met up with the rest of our group and headed to the race headquarters to check in. We each received our bibs with our numbers on them, along with a super cool race shirt, a time monitor for our shoes, and some other goodies in the bags they gave us. Along with the registration area was a huge merch section for all of the Asics gear they had (Asics sponsored the event). I hadn't planned on shopping while I was there, but I needed a new pair of running shoes, so....I caved. But here is where I legitimize the purchase...they were ONLY $50 NZ, and they told me they would sell them to me for $40 NZ!! That's $28 US for a pair of $120 running shoes!! How could I pass that up? :)

After we all registered (Jamie registered too at the last minute meaning 8 out of the 9 of us that were there were running in the 10k), we went on a desperate mission to find ice cream. We found a Burger King that was open really late and ordered soft serve with fudge :) Then we headed to our hostel where we all piled into our room that slept 10 people. All of the bunks but one were occupied! Such a blast!

We woke up early the next morning, got dressed, stretched, ate just enough to give us energy, pinned our numbers onto our cool new shirts, and laced our timers onto our shoes...We were ready to go! We arrived at the starting line and watched the marathon runners wait for their signal to go. After they were on their way we all lined up waiting for our race to begin. We were treated to a performance of the traditional Maori Haka, given instructions by the officials, and then signaled to go by the firing of an authentic canon. It was raining at the start of our race which made conditions a little tough, but things cleared up after a while and it was nice and cool for the run. The race course was absolutely beautiful, winding along the far side of town, through a park, and along the back side of Lake Rotorua. I am not much of a runner AT ALL, but this was a wonderful experience and a great challenge! I won't give any specific number as far as my time goes, but I finished!!...and that was what was important to me!

After we all finished the race we were given bananas, hot tea and coffee, and soup from the foundation who runs the event. A previous foot injury from back when I was in elementary and middle school started acting up during the race so I had my foot iced and wrapped. We then all headed out to breakfast a a great place called the Fat Dog Cafe. I ordered a vegetarian breakfast special that was probably the best breakfast I have had in NZ, and one of the best ever. Wheat toast with potatoes on top (can you say hello carbs?!), and eggs over easy on top of that...mix that with caramelized onions, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, I think some spinach, and some serious spices and you get pure bliss! We were going to check out the hot pools after breakfast, but our group was so tired that we decided to just make the long trek home. What could possibly make 3 1/2 hours in a car bearable? A stop at Candyland for some fudge about halfway through! :)

What a great time with friends and a great physical challenge! Sunday became my day to sleep, catch up on school work, and prepare for the coming week. Oh...and a couple episodes of my favorite TV shows were thrown in there too! I can't pass up the drama on Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice while I'm here...and I am totally into the new NBC show Parenthood! If you get the chance, check it out! :)

Catch Up Part 2: Australia!!

Monday morning, April 12th...Erin, her dad and I boarded a plane to Sydney, Australia!!! Another stamp in my passport...Check! :)

We arrived to absolutely beautiful weather! We hopped in a taxi and went to out hotel first thing to check in. We stayed at the Hyatt Sydney Harbour...wow is about all I could say when we arrived. This hotel was magnificent! Erin and I immediately went running out the back doors of the lobby to the boardwalk along Sydney Harbour and what did we see? The Sydney Opera House!! The hotel was situated right in an area called The Rocks and near Circular Quay, so standing where we were you
could spin in a circle and see the city of Sydney, then the harbour and the opera house, and then the Sydney Harbour Bridge behind the hotel! Breathtaking! We were taken to our room, settled in, and then decided to head out and explore. We boarded a ferry to Manly Beach, where we walked around and explored this adorable town. Erin and I looked for Havaiana jandals because she needed a new pair, but instead ended up finding a totally hippie rainbow beanie for me! We watched the sun go down on the water, listened to some crazy birds up in the trees, and then headed back to Sydney on the ferry. The cityscape at night was beautiful from the water! We had a delicious dinner on the quay and then went back to the hotel to sleep.

The next morning Erin's dad had to go into the office for a few hours, so Erin and I decided to go to the mall and get manicures..so much fun! Afterwards we had a delicious tofu stir fry for lunch and then headed back to the hotel. One of the people who works with Erin's dad told him that climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge is something you HAVE to do while you're there, so we went to talk to the concierge that afternoon to see if there were still any openings. We decided on this at about 3:30, and found out that they had 3 spaces available for the 4:15 departure!! SWEET! It was obviously meant to be! When we arrived at the Bridgeclimb center they outfitted us in these cool looking spacesuits and had us do a climb simulation to make sure we were comfortable with using the devices. We finally got onto the bridge and started climbing, and the view just became more and more spectacular. We were climbing at sunset, so the sky was in the process of turning brilliant shades of pink, orange, yellow and red. We spent a while at the very top, under the Australian
and New Zealand flags, staring out at the beautiful view in front of us! Everything was so amazing that my fear of heights went completely out the window! None of us wanted to climb down! I HIGHLY recommend the bridgeclimb to anyone who visits Sydney! You won't be disappointed! Later that night we went to the oldest pub in Sydney and had the most amazing gourmet pizza...if I remember correctly one was kumara (sweet potato) and brie cheese...mmmm... :)
On Wednesday, Erin's dad had to go back into work for a little while, so Erin and I grabbed boba and trecked across town to a school for students learning how to cut hair.
We got FREE haircuts! It was awesome and we were happy with the results! Once her dad finished work, we hopped on a bus and headed over to Bondi Beach! I see now why all of the celebrities go there...it's Beautiful!! It is a HUGE strip of beautiful white sand covered with people from all over the world wanting wanting to catch some rays as well as a possible glimpse of a movie star...hello Hugh Jackman?! :) There was even an adorable couple doing a photo shoot on the sand. The wife was pregnant and they were standing on a surfboard while the husband held her belly! Sooo adorable...but then again, you're reading the blog of a future midwife and self-professed lover of birth and everything baby :) We hung out on the sand for a while, threw a football with some guys from Ireland, had lunch, and then took the bus back to the city. That night Erin and I celebrated the midpoint between our birthdays with an amazing Italian dinner at a trendy restaurant in downtown. This is where Erin and I fell in love with afogatto...espresso + ice cream = heaven :)

On Thursday we went on a Blue Mountain Safari Tour. Our wonderful tour guide Mel drove us through the Sydney Olympic Park, and then out to the beautiful Blue Mountains! We climbed around in a eucalyptus forest looking for kangaroos (sadly we didn't find any in the wild...we thought we heard one but it turned out to be some kids), had some tea and Anza
c biscuits, and then drove deeper into the mountains. We stopped and did a minor hike down to a lookout where we could see the Three Sisters mountain peaks and the beautiful valley below us. Soo gorgeous! Mel then drove us to a place called Outdoor World, where we took a gondola across the valley, then a tram to the bottom of the valley. We hiked around the rainforest, saw some beautiful birds, and then took a crazy train ride up the near
shear side of a cliff back to the top. Then it was time to head back. We stopped at a historic hotel on our way home for dinner...Fish n' Chips all the way! Our last stop was my favorite! They took us to a wild animal park and rehabilitation center. This place takes in injured animals and nurses them back to health, all while allowing the public to enjoy them up close and personal. We were able to see kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, crocodiles, dingoes, wombats, Tasmanian devils, fruit bats, penguins, emus...you name it! Also, we were able to pet the kangaroos, wallabies and koalas...so adorable!! We acted like total kids and ran around the park with our "passports" looking for the animal stamps for all of the exhibits! We were not going to leave unless we got all of them! haha We did...and they gave us a tiny stuffed koala :) When we got home we showered, got dressed up, and met Erin's dad's coworker on the top floor of our new hotel, the Shangri-la, at their sky bar. I ordered a martini while we talked for a while, and then we left to go meet his family for a delicious Malaysian food dinner in Darling Harbour. They were all so wonderful and nice!

Friday was our last full day in the city. We woke up and got coffee at Starbucks (that had become our morning routine), and then went to do a walking tour of the city. We went to the Opera House, explored inside, and then walked to the botanical gardens. We cruised around for a while, and I got thoroughly freaked out when I discovered spiders the size of Hummers chilling in webs between the trees. Mix that with the thousands of bats that were hanging and squaking in the trees and you have the perfect place for a Halloween celebration! Too bad I don't think they celebrate it. Huge white parrots were also flying all around the gardens from tree to tree. We then too the ferry over to Darling Harbour where we visited the Maritime Museum. Later that night we had dinner at a fish restaurant in the harbour, and then headed back to the hotel to call it a night.

Saturday morning was bittersweet. We packed all of our things and headed to the airport. It was tough to part ways with Erin's dad. We all had so much fun together and we all were not ready for it to end. While we waited for Erin and I to board, we watched the A380 (Erin's dads plane as well as the groundbreaking new Airbus that is two stories from tip to tip. It looks like a flying cruise ship!) pull into the terminal. We then said our goodbyes and boarded our plane back to Auckland...back "home".

The weather was SO gloomy when we got back to Auckland, and as much as I didn't like it at the time, I'm taking the rain for all it's worth now because I know it is going to be blazing hot in California when I get home!

What an amazing trip! Memories that will last a lifetime and beyond... :)

More to come soon!

Catch Up Part 1: Erin's dad arrives and Waitomo!

Hey all!

School is gotten so busy recently that I have not had the opportunity to update my blog. This is going to come in a couple installments because so much time has passed and I would be sitting here for hours if I did it all at once.

The first week of mid-semester break was nice and relaxing. Erin was down on the South Island until that Thursday, so I had some serious time to catch up on work and sleep. I used that Monday-Thursday to get some reading done for my politics and education classes, as well as complete an assignment due after the break. I was able to Skype with Tina for her birthday which was amazing, and got to see her face when she went to one of our favorite juice bars and found a drink pre-ordered from me as a birthday present! She was so excited!

Erin and her dad arrived in Auckland on Thursday...Erin from the South Island and her dad from Los Angeles. On Friday they picked me up that night and we all went out to dinner at a delicious Sushi restaurant called Gion in Parnell. I've never been a big fan of raw fish, but I got up the guts to try their spicy tuna hand roll...soo good! We all ordered the teriyaki salmon for dinner which came with rice, salad, and an incredible avocado paste. This was probably one of the best dinners I have ever had. After dinner we went to Movenpick for some Swiss gelato, and then headed back to the Hyatt (where Erin's dad was staying) to indulge in their incredible spa. We soaked in the jacuzzi and relaxed in the steam room and sauna. What a perfect way to end the night! We had a roll-away bed brought into the hotel room so that I could stay the night because it was so late :)

The next morning (Saturday) we all went down to the farmers market by the Britomart Train Station, had delicious pastries, and relaxed in the sunshine. After that we parted ways, I went home and Erin and her dad went to Waiheke Island for the day. When they got home we all got dressed up and went to dinner on the Viaduct at a beautiful restaurant called Cin Cin on Quay. That night there was a Carol King and James Taylor concert at Vector Arena...sooo wish I could have gone!!! We drank wine, enjoyed the view and each others company, and had delicious risotto :) Another amazing evening!

Sunday morning we all got up nice and early, ate breakfast at the Hyatt, and headed off to Waitomo. The drive was long, about 3 1/2 hours, but we all were so excited about the day that it didn't really matter. When we finally arrived at our destination the excitement was impossible to contain! Waitomo Caves Black Water Rafting!! The guides suited us up in thick wetsuits, plastic booties and super socks, head lamps and long sleeve waterproof vests. We could hardly move but at least we were warm! Next, we drove up the hill to this lazy river where they fitted us with inner tubes and had us jump off a platform backwards into the river with our butts shoved into the doughnut hole of the innertube...can you say attractive?! haha The water was FREEZING! We drove up the road a bit further and then hiked down a hill in what looked like a rainforest to the entrance to the cave. We walked in and my breath was quickly taken away. The rock formations in the caves were spectacular! The room we entered into was relatively small, but as soon as we kept walking, the ceiling opened up and we were in a huge cavern. Oh...I forgot to mention that there is a huge RIVER running through the cave...hence the black water rafting :) This adventure was a mix between walking across the rocks, walking through the river, and sitting in our innertubes riding down the river. There were even a couple instances where we had to jump of ledges backwards into the water to get to the next spot...nerve-wracking! The best part of the whole trip was seeing the glow worms in the caves! These creatures are absolutely spectacular! Floating down the river in one long line of innertubes looking at the glowing ceiling above us was an experience beyond compare. It was so peaceful and beautiful. I really didn't want it all to end :) Once we got back to their headquarters they gave us warm tomato soup and bagels...I literally could not feel my fingers or toes. This was truly an experience to remember forever!

On the drive home from Waitomo I received one of the best text message ever...my little sister Jillian wrote to me saying that she is coming to visit me in New Zealand after her high school graduation!!! I am excited beyond words!! I cannot wait to take her around this beautiful country and show her my temporary home! Waitomo will definitely be one of our stop on our adventure! :)

Another update coming very soon...

The Easter Bunny comes to New Zealand?!?!

Hey everyone!

It has been QUITE a while since I've updated this thing, and SO much has been going on...

2 weekends ago Erin and I went to go see Avatar for the first time! Such an awesome movie. I didn't think I would like it, but I was proven wrong. Great film + best friend + green tea latte = great combination :)

The following day we went to the Coromandel Peninsula with three other friends to do some exploring of the North Island. We rented a car and drove about two hours to Themes where we had lunch and then drove over the pass to the east cost of the peninsula. We hung out at Hot Water Beach, where everyone brings shovels and digs huge pools in the sand to find the HOT thermal water that is buried just below the surface. We mooched off of other peoples pools and put our feet in because we didn't have any digging tools. A little bit later we drove over to Cathedral Cove, which is an incredibly beautiful beach and well...a very sheltered cove. When we got down to the beach after a 40 minute hike, we met some people who were having a 24th birthday party and they explained that they were going to sleep down there. BINGO! Hello sleeping arrangements! Sleeping bags under the stars it is! We headed back up to the car, gathered our gear (which included a guitar and surfboard) and headed back to the beach. We set up camp, mingled with the locals, and ate dinner. The stars were incredible! The sky was so clear you could make out the Milky Way. The next morning we woke up to the most perfect sunrise over the horizon.

For our second day of the trip we headed to the Broken Hills near the Pinnacles an did a two hour hike through some incredibly beautiful terrain and into a 500 meter long gold mining shaft. We used our torches (flashlights for all you Americans :) ), and followed the tunnel from one end to the other. Best part...there were glow worms all over the ceiling of the tunnel. The view from the summit of the hike was breathtaking. This was probably one of the best hikes I've done in NZ so far. After the hike we had to hit the road to get back to Auckland for grocery shopping and another week of classes.

The weeks here have just been flying by! I still love my classes which makes things a whole lot easier and more enjoyable. Erin and I still meet for tea every Tuesday morning to catch up and make plans for the week.

Last weekend Erin, Jamie and I went to Farmers Market where they have the most incredible hummus. We shopped around, did some taste testing, and enjoyed each others company. That night we went to a housewarming party for our friend Niels and had a great time meeting new people and hanging out.

That Sunday, Erin, Jamie and I went to mass for Palm Sunday. It was a great opportunity to reconnect with my spirituality and remind myself of how blessed I am to have this amazing opportunity.

We had no school this Friday because of the Easter holiday which meant that I was able to get out of town early. I headed out to Matauri Bay on Thursday night with Aaron and Justin, two awesome new friends. We traveled 5 hours north with the Auckland University Underwater Club to go scuba diving. We arrived at the campground at about 2am, set up our tents and went to sleep. First thing in the morning I woke up and went on a dive to the Rainbow Warrior shipwreck. It is hard to find words to describe how incredible this was! 70 feet below the ocean exploring a Green Peace ship that used to rest in Auckland Harbor until two French spies climbed aboard and placed two bombs on the ship. The bombs exploded, killing one man, rendering the ship inoperable. The spies had been sent by the French government because New Zealand had been sending the Rainbow Warrior to neighboring Pacific Islands to try and stop the French nuclear testings. When the ship could not be repaired, it was towed up to Matauri Bay where it was sunk as an artificial reef. For the last 15 years sea life has been accumulating on its decks and in rooms that used to be inhabited by people. We saw an eel, tons of fish, and coral that seemed to be colored perfectly for the Easter holiday...pastel purple, pink, orange and yellow :) It was really interesting to think of what went on aboard the Rainbow Warrior before the bomb went off, and imagine all of those things while exploring it 70 feet below the surface of the ocean.

That night everyone from the club hung out, talked, listened to music and cooked crayfish on the BBQ. On Saturday morning I slept in and then did a shore dive out to the point on the bay. The dive was shallow (about 30 feet or so), but we were able to stay down for about an hour and see lots of fish, some sea stars, and a couple other cool things. I found some of the most beautiful shells on this trip as well, so I spent a lot of time collecting those on the beach to bring home. Later on Saturday myself and three of my friends drove out to Opononi where we got Fish n' Chips, drove to a point on the west coast overlooking the Tasman Sea, ate dinner and watched the sunset. It was so beautiful sitting there watching the sky turn different shades of pink, orange, purple and red. We got home, hung out with everyone for a while and then went to bed.

On Sunday morning I woke up to an awesome surprise. There were three chocolate Easter eggs sitting outside my tent! Not only that, there were eggs on car windshield wipers, eggs on the picnic tables, eggs in diving fins, and eggs in front of every other tent in our group! I was so excited to have a little traditional Easter celebration even though I'm so far away from home. Needless to say, way too much chocolate was eaten that morning :) A little bit later on I went for my final dive off the boat, out at a reef not far from the Rainbow Warrior. I buddied up with a friend I made this weekend and we went exploring around at about 69 feet or so. WE saw giant schools of fish, lots of kelp and some really beautiful underwater canyons. We surfaced a tad too fast at the end of our dive, but no decompression sickness so WOO HOO! :)

Being at the bottom of the ocean is like exploring another world. I literally feel like I am weightless, flying over and through some of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. It's such an honor to explore such an untouched and pristine part of our planet.

After we got back from our dive we packed up our gear and hit the road home. We briefly stopped in Whangarei, got some Hokey Pokey ice cream and ended up in a HUGE traffic jam...but we made it home safe and sound.

This was such an incredible weekend, and the perfect way to celebrate Easter and the start of mid-semester break!

This week is going to be a lot of catching up and getting ahead on schoolwork so that I don't have to worry about it when Erin and I go to AUSTRALIA!!! I'm totally excited to have the next two weeks off to relax and have some fun before its back to work for the second half of the semester. I can't believe how fast the time is going!

Talk to you all soon and sending much love from New Zealand :)

Weeks 1 and 2 of classes...Complete!

In the two weeks or so since I've written, everything has been wonderful! I've been here over 6 weeks now and everything feels so natural. Going out with friends, going to class, grocery shopping, laundry...it's all fun to me.

The first week of classes flew by with ease. This semester (SO happy to be off the quarter system for a little while!) I am taking four classes:

1. EDUC 352: Adolescence
2. PYSCH 313: Psychology of Communication Disorders
3. WOMEN 205: Women's Texts of Experience
4. POLITICS 106: International Relations

All of the classes are so different and so interesting. It's really making for an easy and fun semester! I had some difficulty choosing classes initially, but everything fell into place, and this schedule allows me to have only one class on Tuesday and one class on Friday. Sweet!!

Erin, Anni, and I went to a movie in the park middle of 1st week which was a blast! We saw "Goodbye Pork Pie", a hilarious Kiwi classic. We went to a BBQ and beach day out at Long Bay that weekend as well, which was a great time to meet new people and soak up some sun!

Erin and I have been spending so much time together, and I LOVE it! It is SOOO amazing to have her here with me! We meet up just about every other day to do a group fitness class at the rec center (Abs, Butt and Thighs class has literally been kicking my butt). When we aren't working out, we're getting coffee together, running errands, giving each other advice (face to face taking for the first time during the school year since we started college almost 3 years ago!), or just hanging out in each others company. We are running a 10k in Rotorua on May 1st with a bunch of other friends, so we are starting to train for that this week as well! So excited!

I had the full intention of joining the crew/rowing team while I was here...signed up, went to the first practice, and got out on the water in an 8 for the first time in a year and a half! It was one of the most freeing feelings I have experienced in a long time. Unfortunately, there is only one regatta on the schedule during the time that I'm here, and it's just too much money to drop for one race. I would have been training all semester for no racing, so crew didn't end up working out. But it's all good, because there are MANY more exciting things to look forward to! :)

This last weekend I went diving for the first time since my certification! I went with the Auckland University Underwater Club out to the Goat Island Marine Reserve. Absolutely stunning. The world underwater is so incredible. Its such a freeing feeling to drop below the surface of the ocean and float weightless through such beauty. The kelp covered all of the rocks in a thick blanket, and I found myself pushing through it as if it was a giant blanket. When you could see through the kelp, the rocks were covered in a beautiful magenta colored coating, and little snails in beautiful shells were everywhere. Giant snapper also liked to swim right by us, staring at us inquisitively as we explored their underwater world. I was able to get two dives in that day, and I can't wait for other trips in the future.

On Sunday, Erin and I along with her two guy roommates Matt and Brian, all took the ferry out to Rangitoto Island with the Tramping Club (tramping here means hiking, in case you were confused). We hiked to the summit (the island is a volcano), and then down to McKenzie Bay where we laid out and played in the ocean. Perfect day for a great outdoor adventure!

This week has been great so far as well. Classes are good. Erin and I are headed to Newmarket today for some girls time...shopping (most likely window shopping for me) and lunch. Then it's home to shower and make dinner (my flatmates and I have agreed to do group dinners 4 nights a week which should be fun), and then off to downtown Auckland to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day! Hello temporary shamrock tattoos!

More to come soon! Miss you all and love you tons!

P.S. Erin and I have officially booked our tickets to Australia for mid-semester break while her dad is here! So excited for this trip! :)

Amanda :)

It's been a while...

Hey guys!!

Everything has been great since the last time I posted! My trip to the south island was absolutely incredible! As soon as I finish writing about it in detail in my journal I will post an abbreviated version on my blog :) There are so many amazing things to share!

We arrived back in Auckland on Monday night. Sooo great to get back "home"! It's so interesting...when we were coming down to the end of our trip I was thinking about how great it was going to feel to be home again and get settled, and when I was thinking of home I was thinking of Auckland, not Los Angeles. I guess that's a really good thing considering I'm going to be here for a while :)
This week has been "O" week, or Orientation Week, so we have spent a lot of time in meetings about uni (what they call the university here in New Zealand), living in Auckland, travel, jobs, as well as a lot of time meeting people.
Tuesday was amazing because it was the day that I saw my best friend Erin for the first time since we have moved to the other side of the world! Turns out she is living a stones throw away from my flat! I walked up to the main street to meet her to go to the gym, and when I saw her waiting for me I literally darted across traffic because I couldn't wait any longer to hug her! It is the most incredible feeling knowing I have my best friend here with me to experience this life adventure! She is a piece of home and a piece of family that I have with me :) I can't wait for our adventures!
We went to the gym and lunch (great Green Tea Latte!!), and then cruised around uni picking up all of the free things we could find from all of the booths. We went to Quiz Night where I met her friends from field camp as well as a few people from Finland and Norway. Later that night I went to another quiz night with my flats where I was able to meet a lot of the people I will be living near for the semester!
On Wednesday Anni and I went to a session on living in Auckland (which we promptly left because it was all repeat information from our EAP orientation). We made a MUCH needed trip to the grocery store so that I could actually have food in my apartment, and then I snuck into International House with Anni and had a free dinner in the dining hall. Shhhh :) That night we went out to Tahaki Reserve in the Mt. Eden Domain for Movies in the Park. We watched a Kiwi documentary titled "Rain of the Children". Super interesting movie...not sure if it's something I would watch again, but definitely a good film.
Thursday morning was our make-up orientation because we missed the original one on Monday. It absolutely downpoured during that session, then cleared up with sunny skies as soon as we left. We attended two more sessions on Wednesday; one from the Career Services Center and one about travel in New Zealand. They gave out some killer prizes in the travel session, but every time Anni or I knew an answer we would always whisper them to each other instead of raise our hands. Oops! :) That night I went over to Erin's flat to eat pizza and celebrate her friends 21st birthday. I wasn't so sure about going out later that night. The university sponsored a party at a club downtown called the Globe Bar, but the theme of the party was "In Bad Taste". I was tight on space when I was packing to come here...would I really bring something that was in bad taste?! But Anni came up with a brilliant idea, therefore convincing me to go out. If only you could have seen us...walking through downtown Auckland in leggings, rain boots, underwear over the leggings, a tank top, bathing suit top over the tank top, and each of us wearing a rainbow sleeve on one arm. O ya...and you can't forget the pigtails. I looked like a rainbow child with my multi colored rain boots and tie dyed bathing suit and arms! It was so much fun! We met up with Nate, Jef, Joann, Angel and some of our other friends from EAP as well as Erin and her group of friends! We danced and danced and danced some more. We left the Globe Bar and Nate took us over to another bar called Cassette which has all of these really old music players covering all of the walls! Totally awesome! After we hung out there for a little while we decided to head home, and I finally went to sleep around 3:30 am!!
Friday I went to a picnic in the Auckland Domain with a bunch of people from my flat. It's been really great getting to know them! I walked home early though because I really needed to get things straightened out with my classes. I went to the Psychology Department where they signed off on one of my classes, no problem! Yes!! I then dropped by the Maori Studies dept. and finally went and saw my advisor so that he could switch around my classes and add me to the ones I needed to take. Friday afternoon was pretty low key. Anni and I decided to go out for a little while on Friday night to the bar that everyone from my flats had gone to, but we ended up sitting at a booth drinking water and people watching. Haha! I guess we were a little exhausted from the whole week. We left after about a half hour and walked home.
Saturday was a blast! Erin and I woke up early and went to the farmers market down by the wharf. I bought some great fresh food and was able to spend some quality time with Erin. This was as close as I'm going to get to the Calabasas Farmer's Market for quite a while...
We then went to the Warehouse where we bought school supplies. Erin and I were SOOOOO excited to go school supply shopping (it is something I have loved to do since I was really little...I know...weird. What can I say? :) Too bad all we ended up buying were pens and notebooks. Not quite as exciting as we had hoped, but still fun! We met up with Anni and walked back to our flats. I took a much needed nap and then just laid low for the rest of the afternoon. I made dinner (the first time I have had salad since I left home!!! I was craving salad more than I could ever explain!) and then a huge group of us left to go to the Lantern Festival in Albert Park which is commemorating Chinese New Year. It was so beautiful! Lanterns everywhere of all different shapes and sizes. There were lanterns of animals, plants, lanterns in trees, you name it! We walked up and down the rows of booths for a while, laughed at the crazy number of people around us, bought padthai and boba, and then sat on the grass and watched the musical performances for a while. The weather has been so beautiful here lately that this was a perfect event for a Saturday night :)
Today was a great last day of vacation before school starts. I slept in and then made brownies for our pot luck we had tonight. The whole flat smelled like brownies and everyone kept making comments about it! My roommates and I all ate lunch together today which was nice because we all finally got to know each other a little bit better. :) I took another nap, watched an episode of The Bachelor (don't judge) and then headed down to the pot luck. The food everyone made was so tasty! The carrot cake that Elodie (one of my flatmates) made was wonderful! We were all able to hang out and talk and enjoy each others company. After the pot luck a smaller group of us went down to the Lantern Festival again because they were launching off fireworks tonight for the last night of the festival. It was a great firework show! I walked around the festival after the fireworks and saw a lot more of the lanterns than I saw last night. What a great event! :)
Now it's almost 1 am here and school starts tomorrow! I have been in New Zealand just about a month and the time is FLYING by. I have a feeling things will only go fast now that school is starting. Each day is something new and exciting. I am so grateful for this amazing opportunity!
Sorry about the long post, but it was a busy week! I hope everything is wonderful with everyone back in the states!
Lots of love,
Amanda

O ya...the final roommate arrived in my flat finally! His name is Sam...he's from France, but he goes to school in Montreal. Super nice guy! So excited that our flat is finally complete! :)

The time has come!

We are about to leave for the airport to head down to Christchurch and the south island of New Zealand!
Today has been a day of packing, toping up my phone, exchanging currency and Skype-ing with family! I won't have my computer with me while I am gone, and I'm gone until the 22nd of February (the 21st in the US). I will be keeping my blog in a journal and then posting it as soon as I return, along with A TON of pictures of the beauty of this country and the crazy fun we will be having!
I miss you all and love all of you! Thank you for being who you are! I am so thankful for all of the blessings in my life! :)

Last day of orientation

Saturday (or Friday for those of you back in the states) was the first day that we were actually able to sleep in during orientation. It was much needed considering I woke up with a pretty significant cold. The extra time in the morning also gave me the chance to Skype with my mom, Tom, Jilly, my dad and Tina! It was quite the morning of beautiful smiles and faces I always love to see! :)
I went over to Grafton Hall for lunch around noon and then we had three consecutive sessions regarding school. We were told about the Auckland academic scene, how to make our study list, and then we had a question and answer session about things we felt were unanswered. After a very delicious afternoon tea time (complete with chocolate covered cream filled doughnut holes), Annie, Jeff, Joann, Angel and I sat at one of the picnic table to plan our upcoming trip. We all gave our input as to where we wanted to travel and what we wanted to do...
Time goes by so fast here! I went home to get ready for the evening, and before I knew it I was meeting Annie to go and walk down to the wharf to catch the ferry to Devonport for dinner. We all met in this beautiful town to go to dinner at Duders. The restaurant was beautiful and the dinner was amazing! A perfect way to spend our last night together as one big group. We were able to take a giant group picture and spend time on the balcony together talking and looking at the stars. We were able to see the Southern Cross, a constellation that is only visible in the southern hemisphere! We all had a wonderful time acting totally goofy and posing for all sorts of random pictures.
At about 10pm we all raced downstairs to make sure we were able to sit on the top level of the DOUBLE DECKER Greyhound bus that came to take us home! The anticlimactic part of that statement is that we ALL were able to sit on top! hahaha Woo Hoo! The bus took us over the Auckland Bridge and offered us an unparalleled view of the city at night! The skytower looked incredible!
When we returned to Grafton Annie and I hung out in her room until about midnight working out the logistics of our trip. We bought our plane tickets to Christchurch and booked our rental car. I am pretty nervous about driving here! I just keep having to tell myself "left turns are tight turns and right turns are wide. The driver is always on the inside of the lanes". Good thing a lot of the road we are going to be taking are not heavily traveled.

This morning I woke up at 7:30 am and thought sure it was 2 in the afternoon...I guess I'm still not used to the time exactly. I had breakfast at Grafton (have to take advantage of free food while I have it because the next two weeks I am going to be eating more peanut butter and jelly sandwiches than I had ever hoped to consume).
I met friends for coffee at FRED in the early afternoon and then helped Annie move her things into my flat for the night before we leave. We spent much of the afternoon planning out the stops for our trip to the south island, figuring out time between destinations and where we wanted to stay the night...meaning hostels, campgrounds, or where we are hoping to park our car for the night. :)
We took a break for coffee around 4:30 to discover that all of the local shops close at 4 and all of the chain stores close at 6. I guess I'm going to have to get used to a city that values their free time a lot more than Los Angeles. Anni gave in and got Starbucks, and we went to a convenience store where I purchased the biggest Kit Kat I have ever seen...It was just ONE BIG Kit Kat. We met up with our traveling crew, went to check out International House, and then came back home to hang out with some friends in the apartment downstairs. There are FINALLY people living in my building!!! Soooo exciting!! And most of them have accents!!! Double exciting! Still no one else living in my apartment, which works out well because my friends are able to stay here for the night before they all leave on their NZ adventures in the morning.
It's time for me to sleep. I have to kick this cold before we leave tomorrow night! But first I will leave you with a wonderful picture that is a testament to just how much mosquitos love me... :) o ya...and a wonderful view of the island we explored the other day!

Beautiful life

Yesterday was by far the most amazing day of my time in NZ thus far. We all woke up super early so that we could take a 1 hr 15 min ferry ride to Tiritiri Mantangi Island. This island is reserved as a sanctuary for native NZ birds and plants. About 20 years ago a group of passionate volunteers banded together to help restore the island to its natural habitat, free of foreign pests. They exterminated all of the pests on the island, and for the last 20 years or so the native creatures have been able to thrive freely and without threat.
The real unique aspect of this island is the number of endangered birds that inhabit it, as well as the rainforest-esque growth on one side of the island, and the plains that cover the other. We were taken on a guided tour of much of the island, told about all of the plants and birds, and were able to take a ton of pictures, while truly soaking in the beauty that surrounded us. They volunteers have built shelters for the penguins that inhabit the island (Little Blue's), and we were able to look in and see the chicks huddled together. Sooo cute!! After the hike we went to the visitors center and lighthouse where we ate lunch and looked around.
Those of us who felt like being adventurous continued hiking to the opposite side of the island after lunch where we discovered huge arches of rock along the coastline. We all climbed down a hill and jumped into the ocean in a cave under the arches, carved out by the waves. We hiked back into the tunnels where we found penguins hiding out from the surf. Those who were brave enough to swim through the arches did so (not me!!), timing the waves perfectly so as to not get caught inside during a swell. We all felt like we could have stayed at the arches so much longer...the water was warm and it was such a spectacular location....but the ferry was back at 3:30 and we needed to head home. After a 15 minute hike back, we made it to the boat.
The boat ride back was fun because I was able to talk to Chris, another EAP student who is a fellow scuba diver, meaning woo hoo for finding a buddy to dive with! Can you say "HELLO GREAT BARRIER REEF!??!?!"
I returned home for dinner with a sunburn and a strong desire to sleep, so that's exactly what I did. After napping for a while, much of our group decided that they wanted to go out for one of our last nights together as a big group...so we got dressed up and headed out to find a dance club. On the way I went to the ATM and found out I don't have to pay fees to withdraw money while I'm here (a big WAHOO for that one).
The dance club was crazy. The bouncer at the door (a BIG Maori man), refused to let our friend in because he said she was too drunk (NOT true), so Anni and I waited with her and then ended up getting in free after her 15 minutes "sober up" time out. Score for not having to pay!!!
Once we got in we found our whole group dancing on a platform along the windows of the venue, so what did we decide to do but join them! :) It was so much fun...I haven't danced in what feels like forever!! And a big plus to going out in NZ...the guys here actually respect personal space, so "grinding" is almost non-existent. Yes!!!!
At about 1:30 AM a friend and I decided that we were ready to hit the road. Long and incredible day :)

More and more fun :)

Each day the homesickness eases up just a little bit :) I still miss family and friends like crazy, but everyone and everything here makes life wonderful!
Today was Day 2 of orientation. We started the day with a session on culture shock and adjusting to life living in New Zealand. Then came morning tea, what is starting to become my favorite part of the day. After tea we had a session on alcohol consumption in NZ, followed by a talk about requirements as an EAP student.
After lunch all 48 of us headed over to the Auckland War Memorial Museum, where we toured around for a while looking at the beautiful artifacts. At 1:30 we all assembled into a hall where we had the privilege of experiencing a traditional Maori cultural dance and song presentation. Yes, the did demonstrate the famous Haka (enacted before every Rugby game played by the All Blacks New Zealand team), and yes they did pull me and some friends on stage to demonstrate how to twirl these plastic balls they have tied to the end of ropes. They are used in dances, and for the first time I got up and agreed to participate without much hesitation at all! :)
After the performance I took a picture with a (cute) Maori warrior, and then we headed off to the botanical gardens in Auckland Domain. Here I saw some of the most beautiful flowers, ferns, lily pads, etc. You name it, the beauty was there.
Once we got back to Grafton Hall, my friend Anni and I headed back to my apartment so that she could use the internet. After a quick nap I headed back to Grafton for dinner and a session on the political and social scene in NZ. This was extremely interesting because I was finally able to understand the history of the country and the way its government is structured.
Afterwards, a big group of us all headed out to the cricket field in the Domain for a few games of flag football at sunset. It definitely got a little interesting trying to play in the dark.
Tomorrow we are spending a good part of the day out on a local island hiking and exploring :)
I'm bringing my snorkeling gear in case the opportunity presents itself! Also, Anni and I are working on gathering a group to travel to the South Island before school starts...it's time for the real adventures to begin! :)

A couple side notes...I feel like they feed us here ALL the time...one meal ends and about an hour later they are already serving you the next. I think it's a very good thing that I am in an apartment where I have to fend for myself as far as cooking goes :)
The other day when I bought my phone, the salesman thought I asked if they had "sales sex" when I really asked if they had "sales tax"...apparently they don't have either ;) haha and apparently I need to work on my pronunciation.
2 weeks until Erin gets here!! I CAN'T wait!!!

Simple Pleasures

Today was good...great actually! Things finally started to pick up :)
I woke up early to go to my first day of EAP (Education Abroad Program) Orientation. There are 48 of us going to 7 various universities across New Zealand. Everyone is so nice, and all of the program directors are super sweet and helpful.
After an informative session with Andrew Barron, our program director, we were dismissed for morning tea. Biscuits, pastries, tea, coffee, and some of the sweetest fruit I have ever tasted! Delicious!
After morning tea we had another session on the outdoor activities in New Zealand, also a very helpful talk for planning my future excursions. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of amazing people during lunch, and then had down time to go back to my apartment and relax before the evening activities. I was able to Skype with my beautiful Mama, which only made my day that much better! :)
I returned to Grafton Hall around 5pm for a lecture on "Do we speak the same language?" I would answer no to that question considering the words I have learned since arriving. haha
Dinner was an incredible BBQ with delicious food (Veggie friendly thank goodness!), and a cake to celebrate the 22nd year of the EAP program. We also had the opportunity to sample some wonderful wines from local New Zealand wineries.
The evening concluded with a night on the town in downtown Auckland. I went out with a group of 3 other girls to an Irish pub called Father Ted's. Fantastic music by a cover band who informally called themselves "The Drunken Idiots". They played a lot of Creedence Clearwater and Ben Harper, both of which I can ALWAYS appreciate :)
We walked around for a little while afterwards, checking out another local hot spot called Margaritas, but we all went back to our apartments soon after that because tomorrow is another early morning for orientation.
But I definitely had a few standout moments for the day...easily called simple pleasures...
Watching 110 year old men hit on 21 year old girls in the pub was quite the scene. The man who made my mocha today at FRED (Fresh Roasted Every Day) put 3 M&M's on the lid of my coffee after he made it. I literally smiled all the way home. Finally, and clearly most importantly, I was able to experience the toilet water swirling in the opposite direction due to the fact that I am in the Southern Hemisphere!! Woo Hoo! Life goal accomplished! And yes, for those of you who might be wondering (because this is an oh so important fact...) I forgot to observe this phenomena when I was in Africa... :)

Aroha ("love" in Maori),

Quite the Adventure

Today was just that...quite the adventure. I made a plan that I was going to walk around and explore and then make a much needed trip to the store, but as is life, plans changed.
I set off in my workout clothes toward Auckland Domain. I passed a cemetery as soon as I left my apartment (surprise surprise I live next to one of those right :) ??? ) haha I also discovered that I live right next to the hospital...good to know just in case... ohhh I also live on a block with 4, yes count them 4 coffee shops. Bad news bears. :)
Right next to the hospital was Auckland Domain, by far the most beautiful sight I have seen so far since my arrival. I can most easily describe it as a cross between Central Park and Balboa Park. Green rolling hills, ponds, flowers blooming, ducks and geese resting under trees, kids running and playing...you name it. My intention was to follow the main road through Auckland Domain and come out on Parnell Street, the part of Auckland known for its cute shops and cafes. Instead, my mind wandered and before I knew it I was following a wooded street that I HOPED would lead me to my destination. But when the street came to an end I realized that I ended up directly across the highway from my apartment. The good news is I wasn't lost...bad news was I was nowhere near where I wanted to be.
Instead of backtracking, I set off to my next destination, Smith and Caughney's. Now, when I looked up this place online it was described as a department store. I'm thinking "Great!!! It's like Macy's! I can find my bath towels!!" O ya...minor side note...I left my towels at home thinking they would provide them in my apartment. Wrong. No towels. Thank goodness I brought my Turbie Twist. But for those of you who know just how big a Turbie Twist is, imagine trying to dry your whole body off with one in a shower the size of a cracker box...I think you get the picture and understand my desperation to find this store.
I spotted the sign for the store and walked in...Whew! Only to realize that my "Macy's" was really more like a "Barneys" or "Neiman Marcus" or "Bloomingdales". So here I am walking past Hugo Boss, Armani and Chanel in my old workout shoes, green running pants and a sweaty t-shirt. I got just a few stares :) But I got my towels and that was all that mattered!
I spent the rest of my day relaxing, napping, and continuing to get situated.
Tomorrow is my first day of orientation, and a chance to meet some amazing new people!
Lots of love
Amanda

I'm here!!

I arrived in Auckland this morning and o my goodness is it amazing! Just when I thought life couldn't get any more beautiful...it did.
I am on the top floor of my apartment building and the view is incredible. So far I am the only one moved in to my 4 bedroom apartment, and one of the few moved in to the whole building, but everyone should be arriving in the coming weeks.
I have internet access and a new cell phone, so staying connected with everyone back in the states should be super simple :)
I have to say that it's a pretty weird feeling being here and not knowing anyone. I would use the word lonely but I don't want to give off the idea that I'm struggling...because I'm not. I just can't wait until my best friend arrives in Auckland so that we can explore this beautiful country together! But in the meantime, I'm having a blast walking around the city, meeting wonderful new people (the guy who sold me my internet cable is married to a woman from Ventura!!!), and reveling in the intense greenery and plant life that makes up so much of this city and the University campus.
I miss you all like crazy! More to come soon!
